David H. Stevens Named New Advisor to the George Mason Mortgage Board of Directors

David H. Stevens, CMB, (Dave) is a 36 year veteran of the Mortgage Banking industry. Dave served as the President and CEO of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) from 2011-2018, the largest trade association globally for the mortgage finance industry. Prior to this role, Dave served as the US Assistant Secretary of Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner at HUD (US Department of Housing and Urban Development). Dave has served a variety of key industry leadership roles prior to his work in Washington including President and Chief Operating Officer of the Long & Foster Real Estate Companies, Inc., Executive Vice President of Wholesale Lending at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, and Senior Vice President in charge of Single Family Lending at Freddie Mac.
He began his career as a loan officer at World Savings Bank, where, after 16 years he advanced to the role as Group Senior Vice President, National Manager for the mortgage division. Dave currently sits on the Board of real estate investment trust Dynex, Inc. In addition works on advisory efforts in real estate finance and provides technical and strategic consultation to financial institutions and intermediaries.
In 2018, Dave was named Mortgage Professional of the Year by National Mortgage Professional Magazine, has been named Bloombergs 50 most powerful people in real estate and Inman's 100 top most influential leaders. He was recognized for his support of Hispanic lending by NAHREP and awarded their Founders Award in 2013. Dave is often cited in the media having appeared on CNBC, PBS, and Bloomberg TV and quoted in major media. He has testified before the US Senate and House of Representatives multiple times and continues to influence policy makers in Washington.
Dave received his CMB (Certified Mortgage Banker) designation in 2015 and holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is married to his wife Mary of over 30 years, has four children, a son in law, and grandson.
